8 things thing

Well, I've been tagged (there's a first for everything I suppose). And unlike the 25-things-about-me facebook phenom that I vehemently refused to participate in, I'm actually going to fill this one out. Mainly because I'm waiting for my laundry to be done, and, well, Jillian-Anne's blog is one of the few I look forward to reading :)

8 things I look forward to:
* starting cosmetology school in June
* going back to Aus some day
* owning a charger for my Macbook again so I can stop mooching off Elisa (I yub you Eesa)
* not being dirt poor for a little while (yessss! to student loan money)
* going home to visit my fam sometime this summer
* furniture! and paint! and wood floors! (June June June June June)
* Harry Potter 6
* watching O'Grady with John-Ross

8 things I did yesterday:
* played with Sego
* watched Ryan, Olivia, and Joe weed the garden (because I'm a slacker)
* listened to some Craig David (bahaha. but seriously.)
* cleaned out my cupboard in the kitchen
* got some soul shaking hiccups that took ages to get rid of
* interviewed for a job I don't really want but definitely need
* facebook stalked (i know) <- Me too, J. Me too.
* watched some 30 Rock

8 things I wish I could do:
* clean anything and everything with the snap of a finger
* apparate
* travel the world in a year
* be done with school (cosmetology and my BA)
* play an instrument well enough to be in a band
* be completely self sufficient in a house far away from the rest of civilization
* own a puppy
* grow my hair out faster

8 shows I watch:
* Gossip Girl
* 30 Rock
* Dexter
* It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
* Arrested Development (well, the DVDs anyway)
* O'Grady (also no longer on the air, but one of the best cartoons ever)
* The Simpsons (only the old seasons now and then though)
* uuuuuuh... I can't think of anything else. Soooo.... my life. I watch my life.

Some active causes to consider

I've been considering today (thanks to all the headlines about the SF torch ceremony) whether to participate in this whole "boycott the Olympics" thing. On the one hand, I love the Olympics. Particularly the summer Olympics. On the other hand, there's that side note where China aided in the Darfur genocide and that little thing going on in Tibet... what's a girl to do? How does one boycott the Olympics anyway? Without actually going to China I mean. Someone answer me that.

Also on the topic of death and displacement, let's talk about Hurricane Katrina for a moment. Has anyone heard about The Pink Project? I'm highly confused about this thing. Brad Pitt and his cohorts have spent a TON of money putting together these pink solar powered lit up tent houses in the lower 9th ward with constellations around them that reflect the sky on the night Katrina hit (because obviously with all that hurricane weather the lower 9th ward could totally see the stars). My confusion is, wouldn't all that money be better spent on actual houses? Perhaps I'm missing the point, I don't know. I mean we all like a good monument to those who have died. Thousands of people travel to Pearl Harbor and Ground Zero every year, but... tent houses that are uninhabitable?

I don't get it. Someone explain. Please.

Alright, I am seriously ready to just sell everything I have and go to Africa to help all the little kids with AIDs (yes, I did watch Idol Gives Back, thank you very much). My heart just breaks for them. I can't imagine living without parents and having HIV. They're all so young and sweet and have nothing.

Sigh, new before-I-die checklist:
Provide clean water to someone who otherwise couldn't get any
Protect a child from Malaria
Work in an orphanage in India
Feed a hungry family
Decrease my contribution to global warming
Save a chunk of rain forest (will help previous by bucketloads)
Solve world poverty

P.S. Did you know becoming a vegetarian decreases global warming and contributes to ending poverty? Read about the environmental positives and the world hunger positive to becoming a vegetarian.

P.P.S. Did you know some biofuels, like ones made from corn, are actually increasing global warming because deforestation is taking place to make room for more corn crops? Yeah. I was surprised too. Read about it here.

Just some things to think about :)

Upside down and round and round

It has been an extremely bizarre day. It's the end of March (a.k.a. spring) yet we've suddenly got an inch to two inches of snow sitting on our back porch. And a friend came out of the closet unexpectedly this afternoon.

Life seems a bit topsy-turvy lately. Not bad. Just not quite usual. Though I guess, when is it ever?

And right now I'm watching an Oprah about packrats. It's insane.

The 366th Day

Happy Leap Day everyone. To anyone whose birthday might be today, you lucky duck, you're much younger than the rest of us.

Speaking of young and old. I turn 21 next week. How odd. In Mormon world this means nothing except that I am approaching old maidishness. (Yes, in Mormon world you're an old maid at 23. Or at least it seems that way).

I think 21 is going to be a much better age for me than 20 was. I have a feeling good though perhaps less dynamic things are going to happen in the coming year. And I'm alright with that.

Work was deathly slow today, so I started searching for a new show or movie to get interested in online, and I stumbled across Gossip Girl. I bought the first book in the series when I was in high school but then never read it. I don't think I would have enjoyed the books as much, but I'm really enjoying the show. It's completely soap opera-ish, sort of in the vein of One Tree Hill but less weird. At the moment though it's serving as a good distraction from my own troubles.

Unless I spend the remainder of the evening watching that, I might switch it out for La Vie En Rose, which I picked up at Blockbuster a couple days ago. I've heard great things about this movie, and it'll be a good chance to brush up on my French a bit.

So anyway, off to more couch potato-ness.

Plus and minus

Through the entirety of Project Runway Season 4, I have hated on Rami time and time again. But even I have to admit, I'm glad he made it to Bryant Park instead of Chris. Using human hair for clothing - while I admit it looked chic - is just... gross...

I'm a little nervous for my boy Christian, but I'm really excited to see what he and Jillian will be pulling out on the runway.

And I have a major girl crush on Heidi Klum. Seriously.

On the topic of me (that's what you're all here for right?), depression = two thumbs down. And rain to top it off is just miserable. I promise I'll get less whiny as time goes on. It feels like an eternity since Saturday and yet it's only been 4 days. I said Monday or Tuesday that I just have to take it one day at a time, and my mom responded, "And probably even an hour at a time more often." So true. Well, there's an hour left of today and I think I'll try to sleep through it and a few of tomorrow's hours as well.

I am thankful for sleep, for the increasing hours of daylight in the day and that our elliptical machine is set up so I can run on it while watching the fabulosity that is Project Runway.

With that, goodnight.

I think the weirdness is back...

Watch this show. (You can stream each episode from both seasons). I promise, you won't be disappointed. Especially if you've ever been to a high school. Not even necessarily your own high school. Just any high school. The characters are hilarious. In each episode a new "weird" factor hits the town. Such as all the people on public service signs coming to life, or anyone who has a cold aging between 15-50 years every time they cough or sneeze. My favorite episodes are probably Clones, Bubbleheads and Remotes. I have been laughing for hours.

I bought Brandon's birthday present today. I'm mildly obsessed with this website called Threadless. People submit their graphic art to be made into tshirts and members of the website vote on the new designs. If enough people like it, it gets made into a tshirt and sold on Threadless.com. This is the one I bought Brandon. It's called "I'm Sure I Used To fit." I love that they've got the jaws of life out haha

The past few nights Brandon and I have been discussing lucid dreaming. I'm going to try for the next few nights to make myself lucid dream. I'm really hoping to revisit England or Australia. We watched this movie not too long ago called Waking Life. It's all in rotoscope, which is really cool if you've ever seen good rotoscope animation. I learned a lot about lucid dreaming from that movie. It was really interesting. I definitely recommend it.

So to track my crocheting progress, I am happy to note that I figured out what I was doing wrong on my square, which was shrinking in width as it got longer. My mom couldn't remember how to do the ends of each row (such as how many chains each type of stitch needs at the beginning of the next row). But I have got it all down now thanks to a helpful book, and I will be knocking out scads of crocheted squares for Warm Up America in no time at all!

Lastly, my Central Coast Cali, here I come! (Please don't rain on me) countdown is officially at 18 days. Yay! One less than yesterday!

I'll say sorry, but I'm not taking off my glasses

So, a FEW things today.

Firstly, this morning sucked hardcore. Mainly because sometimes being a girl sucks hardcore. But then miraculously to brighten the otherwise dreary morning, there was Corey Delaney in all his glasses awesomeness. I laughed for hours over this. And then got my mom laughing over it as well. This makes me miss Australia a wee bit more. See for yourself:

I think I need this tshirt:

haha, I love it!

Alright, secondly, just for all of you who may be bloggers or avid blog readers, I know I'm behind the times, but I've found out about this thing that makes my blog reading faaantastic. It's called Google reader. If you have a Google account you can use it to have all your friends' blog updates in one convenient little place. If you need or just want a Gmail account, let me know. I still have 98 invitations left.

Today I've been listening almost non stop to Land of Talk. You can stream some of their music off their site. They've just really been hitting the spot today for some reason. Helped me get a lot of work done.

Ok, so lastly, before I go watch some 30 Rock - which, by the way, is the funniest show on TV right now, and one of the only things I watch regularly - I had a flashback discussion with Brandon last night. We recapped all the best Nickelodeon shows that were on when we were kids. I don't know how many of you remember this show, but man, I'd like to see some Rocko's Modern Life right about now. Or maybe some old school Doug. TV was so great when we were kids! What happened?

Alright, enough rambling for tonight.

Sweet dreams my syrupy little canned peaches.
